About Canoga Park

Canoga Park is one of Los Angeles County’s many residential communities. Nestled in the San Fernando Valley, the population dense city is surrounded by Woodland Hills, West Hills, Chatsworth, and Winnetka, which were formerly subdivided part of it.

In 2005, Canoga Park was presented the All-America City Award, a recognition given by the National Civic League annually to 10 outstanding communities in the United States. It is the oldest community award giving body in the country today.

Based on Köppen Climate Classification system, this specific part of Los Angeles has a Mediterranean climate, which typically experiences record hot and dry temperature during the peak of the summer season.

Throughout the years, prominent personalities in different fields have called Canoga Park their home, including actors Judith Barsi, Bob Burns, Bryan Cranston; athletes Eugene Selznik, Ryan Wolf; musicians Dorsey Burnette, Felly or Christian Felner in real life; and Francis Lederer, who was an actor and once an honorary mayor of Canoga Park.

Based in Studio City, Orchid Republic offers flower delivery to Canoga Park.

History of Canoga Park

What we know today as Canoga Park was formerly homeland of Native Americans in the Tongva-Fernandeño and Chumash-Venturaño tribes. For more or less 8,000 years, these ancestors lived undisturbed on the Simi Hills all through the streams of the Los Angeles River.

However, during the Mexican War, this very same area soon became part of the Mission San Fernando Rey de España (Mission San Fernando), from 1797 to 1846.

Post-war, Canoga Park, which has been included in Rancho Ex-Mission San Fernando, was bought by a wealthy man named Alfred Workman. He got the westernmost ranch, spanning over 13,000 acres of wheat farm. Workman transformed the land by planting novel seeds, and therefore introducing new plants in the Workman Ranch, including eucalyptus trees, which he imported all the way from Australia. Eucalyptus grew not only in his farm but in surrounding areas in Canoga Park all the way through the major parts of the San Fernando Valley.

Fast-forward to 1912, then named Owensmouth was founded as a town. It officially joined Los Angeles in 1917 and was christened Canoga Park on March 1, 1931 as petitioned by Mary Logan Orcutt, a local civic leader during those times.

Luckily, Orchid Republic is within easy access to Canoga Park and offers flower delivery and orchid arrangements here and to other neighborhoods around Los Angeles and Orange County.
