2019 Tony Awards Feat Rainbow Flowers, A Nod to World Pride

June marks the month-long celebration of World Pride around the world. In all of this, we are ecstatic to see exquisite flowers finding their way and playing a special role in this beautiful celebration of unconditional love and acceptance.

The past couple of years has shown a promising and increasing support for the LGBT community from numerous iconic personalities and organizations, effectively influencing people’s perception on the matter positively. Check out how this year’s Tony Awards accomplished that and used thousands of real roses to recognize the achievements of the arts and theater and the pivotal role of the LGBT community in all of that.

Pride Flowers at  2019 Tony Awards Red Carpet

Beyond the impressive designer gowns, 2019 Tony Awards red carpet lends its spotlight for World Pride. Featuring a show-stopping statement for this cause, Raul Avila, a renowned event designer from New York City, made a masterpiece of a rainbow-colored floral pride flag spanning the length of the event’s red carpet.

The breathtaking floral arrangement was made using estimatedly 22,000 fresh roses that were farmed and flown all the way from Columbia especially for the 73rd Tony Awards.

"We want viewers to be inspired and celebrate with us. We want them to take pride in how far we've come and how symbolic it is to be able to put a rainbow on the Tony Awards red carpet. This is meant to be a joyful celebration for New York and the Broadway community," Avila said in an interview with Vogue.

Avila is known to be Vogue editor Anna Wintour’s choice designer for prestigious events for five consecutive years now, including the annual Met Gala. He and his design prepped thousands of stemmed roses by cutting and preserving them for 24 hours. To create the electrifying floral creation, he admitted they also needed to use floral paint and dyes on the fresh Columbian roses.
