10 Must-See Fall Festivals in the US 2024

As summer fades and the fall season signals its arrival with leaves getting hints of red and gold, some of the most anticipated autumn festivals also start to unfold.  From pumpkin patches and corn mazes to haunted houses and Thanksgiving parades, there's definitely something for everyone to enjoy. 1. California Avocado Festival 

When: October 4 to 6

Where: Downtown Carpinteria, California 

 

If you love your avo toast, you and this fall harvest festival are a match made in heaven. Dubbed “Peace, Love, & Guacamole,” it’s one of California’s biggest free music events of the year, showcasing 60 bands performing for its three-day event. Spend an exciting weekend checking out 50 arts and crafts exhibitors and commercial vendors,  and 15 delicious food concessionaires. If you want to make your attendance more meaningful, you can also support at least a dozen nonprofits that will be on-site during the event. 

2. Sever's Fall Festival 

When: September 14 to October 27 (Every Saturday and Sunday)
Where: 3121 150th Street West, Shakopee, Minnesotta 55379

One of Midwest’s original fall festivals, Sever’s is a long-standing autumn tradition event held since Minneapolis. It features a unique cornstalk maze challenge, an extreme corn pit playground, straw sculptures and installations, zip lines, and a petting zoo. Other activities include pumpkin blasting, pony and hay rides, and live shows. The event is held on weekends throughout the fall. There are plenty of delicious food and drink options. Visitors can also purchase farm-fresh apples at the on-site farm stand.

3. The Great Jack O’ Lantern Blaze 

When: September 13 to November 17
Where: Van Cortlandt Manor Croton-on-Hudson, New York

This is one spectacular and immersive Halloween experience that's not to be missed. This iconic annual fall event transforms the historic Van Cortlandt Manor into a magical wonderland illuminated by thousands of intricately carved and larger-than-life Instagrammable pumpkin displays. The breathtaking installation combined with synchronized lighting and music guarantees an epic and wholesome experience for all ages. 

4. Oktoberfest Zinzinnati 

When: September 19 to 22
Where: Sawyer Point and Yeatman’s Cove, Cincinnati, Ohio

America’s Oktoberfest in Cincinnati first held in 1976 is one of the largest of its kind outside of Germany, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, with an impressive record of 808,300 attendees last year. Indulge in traditional German gastronomic offerings, like bratwurst, sauerkraut, and pretzels, paired with different beers from over 20 companies and breweries. Some of this fall festival’s highlights include the World’s Largest Chicken Dance, the Zinzinnati Zirkus performance, and the cutest ever Running of The Weiners contest, a dachshund race where adorable wiener dogs compete for the title of "Fastest Wiener Dog in the World."

5. Warrens Cranberry Festival 

When: September 27 to 29
Where: Warrens Wisconsin

Known as the "Cranberry Capital of the World," Warrens Cranberry Festival draws over 185,000 visitors every year. The three-day annual autumn festivity features 800 arts and crafts vendors, 300 flea market, 100 farmer booths, and 100 food booths.  Enjoy a variety of cranberry-related activities, such as cranberry bog tours, cranberry cooking demonstrations, cranberry wine tasting, and the biggest berry contest.

6. Haunted Happenings in Salem 

When: September 26 to October 31
Where: Salem, Massachusetts

A month-long celebration of Halloween in a city steeped in history and legend. This iconic fall festival offers a unique blend of spooky attractions, historical reenactments, and family-friendly activities. Explore Salem's haunted sites on guided ghost tours, learning about the city's dark past and paranormal tales. Where: Albuquerque, New Mexico

Known as the largest hot air balloon festival in the world! Witness the amazing sight of hundreds of colorful hot air balloons rising into the sky simultaneously, creating an impressive spectacle. 8. Autumn at the Arboretum

When: September 21 to November 3
Where: Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden, Dallas Texas

Let over 150,000 fall flowers and over 100,000 pumpkins and gourds (80,000 of which are used to create its whimsical pumpkin village) take your breath away. 9. National Apple Harvest Festival 

When: October 5 to 13
Where: 615 Narrows Road Biglerville, PA

This beloved annual autumn tradition celebrates the region's rich apple-growing heritage. Fill your belly with sumptuous apple-based treats, from apple pies and apple cider donuts to apple fritters and apple butter. Check out over 300 plus art and crafts vendors, antique cars and gas station displays, sample craft beers, hay rides and pony rides, and the petting zoo.

10. Boca Raton Pumpkin Patch Festival

When: October 19 to 20
Where: Boca Raton, Florida
